The state and features of development of modern scientific methodology of library science are analyzed. It is stated that the development trends of the sciences of the socio-communication cycle make new demands on the methodology of current library research. The growing importance of research aimed at studying the patterns of development of library knowledge, mechanisms of its functioning, and solving specific practical problems is emphasized.
